Dr. Watts and Rev. Dr. Guyse of London, and the congregation to which the last of these preached on a monthly day of solemn prayer; as also of your desire to be made more perfectly acquainted with it, by some of us on the spot: and having been since informed by my uncle Williams, that you desire me to undertake it, I would now do it in as just and faithful a manner as in me lies.

The people of the county in general, I suppose, are as sober, and orderly, and good sort of people as in any part of New England; and I believe they have been preserved the freest by far, of any part of the country, from error, and variety of sects and opinions.

Peter Wyatt is a Chartered Valuation Surveyor who has conducted extensive teaching, consultancy and research in land management and valuation.� Currently Director of Undergraduate Programmes for Real Estate & Planning at the University of Reading, he has developed and delivered national and international university programmes at all levels, has published widely in leading real estate journals and has published two text books.� Dr Wyatt has been involved with and lead national, European and international real estate research projects.� Recent projects have investigated the way in which key attributes of the domestic and non-domestic building stock affect value; in particular energy consumption, environmental labelling and public transport accessibility.� Ongoing work with UK Government is investigating the theory and practice of development viability appraisal in planning policy, focusing on the issue of development value and planning gain.

Oh Janice, Janice, Janice...

This book is a spiral into madness. Janice is the epitome of crazy in this short, deliciously twisted novella from the Marked Series by Elena M. Reyes.

If you are a fan of this series then you have been waiting for the lovely Elena Reyes to allow us a peek into the psychosis of Janice; the ever determined, obsessed, intoxicating and maniacal ex-lover of Talan and supreme threat to Maya his new love. Janice is a ticking time bomb. And in this novel we get an intimate view into her deranged way of life. But we get something else as well. We are introduced to a Janice that is vulnerable, fearful and lonely. A Janice that despite the fascinating train wreck that she is you can't help but feel a sliver of sympathy for. You can't help but want to fix her, help her, and put the pieces of her shattered heart back together.

Reyes makes the reader both cower in fear and reach out in compassion when it comes to Janice. She provides the reader with a painful story that allows them to connect with Janice in a way that was absent in the first two books of the series. We saw her as a monster, a mean spirited individual full of spite and jealously. But in this book we see a frightened and exposed woman trying to hold on to the tethers of what at one time filled her heart with happiness. We see someone who is defenseless against their own mental anguish; and it is that confession of her soul that will leave your mind reeling with mixed emotions and yearning for more of this character's story. Great addition to the Marked series that both compliments and intensifies the story

Gripping and amazing

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Janice from the Marking Her and Marking Him series is back in this short read by Elena Reyes. She has felt abandoned,thrown away,and invisible by the people in her life. But now Janice has turned that love in pure hatred and seeks to destroy those who she thinks wronged her namely Talen.
Will she succeed in her quest to destroy Maya, Talens new love?
Will she finally realize she needs help before she goes off the deep end and its too late?

First of make sure you have read Marking Her and Marking first or you will be lost reading this book.
Wow Janice is a certifiable nut and it clearly shows in this book. She has such a fixation on Talen and the fact that he has moved on from her with his new love Maya.
I honestly went into reading this trying to give Janice the benefit of the doubt but halfway thru I changed my mind.
Janice no longer has a firm grip on reality and it clearly shows.
Elena did an awesome job writing Janice's story and after the way the book ended I'm looking forward to the next book in this five star series.
We also get introduced to a few new characters that I'm interested in seeing and getting to know them more in upcoming books.

JANICE'S STORY WILL TEAR YOUR HEART OUT

In Marking Him and Marking Her, the previous books in the Marked series, we loved to hate Janice. I will not spoil the book for you guys, I will stop that comment there.

Elena takes us on a journey into the mind of mentally ill woman, that, at the moment lives in her own reality, one that has put at risk her life and the lives of other people.

Then there is Jaime, a club owner that is attached to a person that uses him to ease her pain, could he be the knight marked with tattoos for Janice. To know that, yes you guessed it, one click it, I swear you will not be disappointed, the series is amazing and this book is so good.

Lets talk a bit about Elena's writing. The way she portrays the mind of Janice is spot on with her mental issues. Is a very hard thing to do, and she did impeccably, also with a compassion that makes you delve so deep into the story, you want to cuddle and get help for the characters. I am telling you Elena is amazing at what she does and kudos to her because it is not a type of story that is easy to outline and write. 5 stars it is from me people, MUST BUY!!!

Dr. Virgil E.J.C. Schijns is special guest Professor in Cell Biology & Immunology group, Wageningen University, 6708 WD Wageningen, The Netherlands. Dr. Schijns received his Ph.D. degree at Utrecht University in 1990. Recent professional appointments are Chief Scientific Officer at ERC in Belgium and The Netherlands, (2011 to present); Chief Technology Officer, Vice-president at a small biotech spin-off from Utrecht University (2008 to 2011); Special professor immune Intervention, Wageningen University and Research center (2008 to present); Special Professor in Immunology and Virology at North Carolina State University (NCSU), Raleigh. Department of Population Health and Pathobiology (2002 to present) and Head of Department for Vaccine Technology and Immunology (VTI), AKZO NOBEL (1999 to 2008).

Dr. Derek O’Hagan was the Global Head of Vaccine Chemistry and Formulation Research for Novartis Vaccines, based in Cambridge, MA until acquisition by GSK in March, 2015. He managed research teams (~50 total staff) in Cambridge and Siena, Italy. He originally qualified as a pharmacist in the UK, and is a former academic researcher who has worked on vaccine delivery in the industry since 1993. He was formerly a Lecturer in Drug Delivery at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Nottingham, UK, and received research funding from the World Health Organization, The Wellcome Trust and the Medical Research Council. He was recruited into the US in 1993, and moved to progress basic research into clinical evaluation, then subsequently worked on several vaccine delivery systems that were evaluated in the clinic, including novel adjuvants, nucleic acid vaccines and needle free vaccines. In the mid 1990’s, Dr. O’Hagan worked on the emulsion adjuvant MF59, which is now included in a licensed flu vaccine in more than 40 countries and is progressing towards licensure in the US. He has co-authored >140 original research publications, >60 book chapters and reviews and I am a named inventor on >60 filed patents. He was awarded the Conference Science medal of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 1997, and the Young Investigator Research Achievement Award of the Controlled Release Society in 1999. He was also named as the ‘most inventive scientist’ in Chiron in 2004 and was the lead author on the most cited paper in ‘Vaccine’ 2008-10. Dr. O’Hagan served on the Board of Scientific Advisors for the Controlled Release Society and is a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.

About the Author
Thomas Forrest Kelly is professor of music at Harvard University. He studied musicology and chant on a Fulbright in France, and he has taught at Wellesley, Smith, Amherst, and Oberlin Colleges. His previous books include First Nights: Five Musical Premieres and First Nights at the Opera. He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The book is beautiful to look at

The book is beautiful to look at, and very informative. The accompanying CD, by the vocal ensemble "Blue Heron", performs 17 of the pieces discussed in the book; I found the performances to be lovely, and the recording technically excellent.

As for its being "low-brow", as another review complained, the author does make the occasional topical wisecrack. To which I say, "Chill out, dude!"

I'm looking forward to giving the book a second, detailed reading. In the meantime, it will rest on my shelf between Grout's "History of Western Music" and Tufte's "Envisioning Information", two classics in whose company "Capturing Music" belongs.

Can't be better

The development of music notation that, for the most part, clearly allows pitch, rhythm, tempo, articulation, dynamic and timbre, to be scored and then newly performed from the score -- without the direct instruction of someone already familiar with the music -- is one of the great accomplishments of Medieval Western Civilization. But because of the history's complexity it's both usually skipped in general introductions to music and treated only minimally in the training of professional musicians in undergraduate programs. "Capturing Music" brilliantly corrects this problem.
In wonderfully readable prose, easily accessible to the amateur, Kelly traces the story of notation's development from fragments in the Middle East and the Hellenistic Levant to the polyphonic musical monuments of the late Middle Ages. Although essential to the understanding of notation, in previous books on the subject accompanying illustrations have been both minimal and usually in black and white. But here we have copious full color illustrations and, as in the case of one of Machaut's ballades " Biaut�. ." and Cordier's rondeau "Belle, bonne" we have splendid full color reproductions of works that are often referenced but, before now, tricky to find in facsimile. That the book includes a CD of performances of the pieces referenced in Kelly's text testifies to the care the publishers took with this volume (with the expense the publishers went to I'm surprised the price isn't much higher).
While I wish that the book would have been longer, taking us into the 20th Century, that is probably more of a request for a multi-volume set, not for a couple of additional chapters. Those wishing for a specialist's understanding of medieval notation (or better, notations) will still need the help of other monographs, but as an introduction to how notation changed our musical world, I can't image a more wisely planned, or eloquently argued, or beautifully prepared book.

A jewel. Beautifully conceived, constructed, both the images and the words utterly fascinating. I am a musician, also performed on period renaissance instruments, always using modern notation. Capturing Music is my tool to understanding where it started and bloomed.
