“Who Is Donald Trump?" is a below average brief biography of billionaire Donald J. Trump. This book is part of the series of short biographies of the candidates running in 2016. This progressive-minded reviewer will illustrate as fairly as possible the positives and negatives of this book. This succinct 31-page book includes five chapters, a resources link section, and The Who is Biography Information Series.

Positives:
1. A quick way to get a feel for each candidate. Sweet and to the point.
2. The candidates make for an interesting topic.
3. A look at his childhood and upbringing. “Donald was an ordinary boy, full of energy and childish interest in the surrounding world.”
4. Interesting unexpected tidbits. Find out what sports the young Trump participated in.
5. His educational background.
6. A look at the family business.
7. The New York real estate business. A look at the winning aspects of Trump’s list of achievements.
8. A look at his personal life.
9. Plenty of quotes that reflect who Mr. Trump is. “As long as you’re going to be thinking anyway, think big.”
10. A brief look at some of his big deals.
11. The Trump brand name.

I like the concept of the series but the execution and editorial choices were disappointing to say the least. As of this review the book was available for free via Kindle Unlimited. Below average.

"Without Passion You Don't Have Energy, Without Energy You Have Nothing"

Being an entrepreneur myself the words I put in the title are exactly true. Of course I am not as famous as Donald Trump or never will be but you do need passion and Tag has captured the passion of this man in his latest book Who Is Donald Trump? Like many immigrants Donald's father had to change his name and thank goodness he did. What if it had been Donald Drumpf!
It seems that he was a natural in real estate and his father commented "Everything he touches turns to gold." and with his philosophy about fate, there was no stopping this man.
It should be interesting to see what the Americans do in the next election, I mean they elected Arnold! They could use a tough businessman to get things back on track but seeing them vote George Bush Jr. in twice I doubt that this will happen.
Interesting as usual, If you want to know about the candidates I would check out all the latest "Who Is" books by Tag, I know I am!

Wake up and read this book.

Nobody is perfect, and no marriage is perfect all the time. We all struggle, but it's important to God, to your children, and to your spouse that you fight for your marriage. This book is very insightful in how to trust in God and ways to show your spouse that you love them and you are willing to sacrifice the things in life that you have wrongly placed above them in your life.
I will never take my wife for granted, b/c I went through hell to get to be mine. God blessed me with her and I will treat her in the manner she deserves to be treated. This book helped me realize that!

This large format book seems to be unlike any other when it comes to 3D and related representations of relevance to both stargazing and celestial navigation. It provides an amazing context for understanding other flat/2D charts and tabular reference material.

Also related... I was undecided as to whether to buy the RASC Observers Handbook 2014 or the Astronomical Calendar 2014, but when I noticed that Guy Ottewell authored the Astronomical Calendar my decision was easy...

Note the large size -- 14.8 x 10.8 inches -- not something that tucks away with other books easily... but the oversize format really does support the scope and detail of the graphics.

I have bought the yearly Astronomical Calendar from Guy Ottewell for years. This book is the same quality as the Calendars. His illustrations are wonderful; His writing is extremely educational. I cannot say enough good things about his work.

About the Author
The author of the Kakehashi series of educational materials is a professor of Japanese and comparative culture at a private university in California. Living much of his life abroad and working as a diplomat, social integration was not only a personal must, but part of his job. Through his experiences, he came to understand that, since language is a part of culture, functional language acquisition is impossible without learning to think like a native speaker of the language. The Kakehashi series is the embodiment of this realistic approach to learning and understanding language in its cultural context.

Very Impressed

The shipping was very fast and in good packaging.

Right off into Chapter 1, it explains the writing systems, and there is a hiragana/ katakana chart. You WONT be able to continue into chapter 2 unless you have those two down, as it no longer uses romaji from that point.

As of now, it's only teaching grammar. The way it explains grammar is easy and comprehensible, it gives example sentences, then it explains those sentences as well. It will not teach vocabulary lists of words until ch.7.

This textbook is teaching you how a Japanese person would react/say in a situation, and also give a little background info.

The pages are of good quality. I highlight key components in the paragraphs to help me understand the context, and I can barely see it on the other side of the page, sometimes I don't see it. I also write in pen, which doesn't bleed through.

The textbook is also newly printed. On the back it labeled when the book was made, which was the day I ordered it. That means your book was not sitting somewhere, but made when you ordered it!

Finally, vocabulary is in kanji!! Don't worry, as there is furigana to go along with it!!

I am very impressed with the layout, ease of explanations, examples, clarifications, and background information. Please get this book, as it is the most current form of language taught in textbook (Most newly updated), and explains things in which you understand the concept easy.

Best Japanese textbook out there!

Japanese is very different from English, and that makes learning the language very difficult. By taking a very different approach than other textbooks, this book makes it as painless as possible to get you from knowing nothing about the language to functional fluency.

The book starts off with just grammar and no vocab so that you know how to make a sentence before you get overwhelmed by trying to memorize all the vocab in any new language. The rest of the book is then separated into themes that introduce Japanese culture and history, their mindset, additional grammar points, and vocab.

The book condenses the information you would get from four or five books of other textbooks, such as Genki or Nakama, into one. This means that you only get the important points without the other unnecessary information that make learning the language more confusing. Not only that, but the information is presented clearly and with nice, straight-forward rules backed with examples to illustrate them.

The book was written recently and with the idea that to know a language you should know it like a native speaker does. So, the book is as up-to-date as possible for a language that changes fairly quickly and presents the language as is for a native speaker, such as letting you know right off the bat that Japanese has kanji, writing the examples like it would be written in Japan (but also including reading aides of course), or explaining the Japanese mindset so you know why the language is used the way it is used.

The language of the book itself is also very approachable. It is not something that would require a lot of effort to read through, though I can't say the same about trying to memorize the information, which with any subject takes effort.

So overall, this is an excellent textbook that I would recommend to anyone trying to learn Japanese in a class or on their own. And for $40, which is much cheaper than other textbooks, it is a steal!

Not your normal textbook

As a scholar of Japanese, I've seen quite a few textbooks in my day. Most have more or less the same approach of academic bulemia, where the student is expected to take in a myriad of meaningless, over-simplified plug-it-in formulas, whether s/he understands them or not, and regurgitate them onto a standardized test. This is good if your goal is to pass a standarized test, such as the all too famous JLPT. I find most of what I have learned, and understood, has been outside of class, from my own scrutiny and investigation, and just interacting with native Japenese speakers.

Finally, here is a textbook with an approach that differs from the rest; learning what will be useful when talking to real live speakers of Japanese for a change! If you learn what Japanese actually SAY in any given situation, then you're not left stupified, hunting around in your head from the plethora of "grammar points" most textbooks make you learn in order to pass tests. And, the more you understand the words that you are saying, the less daunting the language will seem. All the grammar you learn actually has meaning and makes more sense when you understand it, instead of learning it by rote, and how to replace arbitrary parts.

This textbook is a must for scholars interested in gaining a more thorough understanding of Japanese and the cultural context it is spoken in.

Not too dusty!

I'm so glad I did! How this man Peter Pinney survived to the ripe old age of seventy defies belief. The book "Dust on My Shoes" tells of his extraordinary journey, travelling "rough" from Greece through to Burma. Thrown in jail here, cadging visas there, working in tough seamen's bars in Beirut or entering head-hunter territory in Burma with trepidation; it's the kind of journey you're glad to read about but not experience personally. His travels also give an historical perspective to some of the conflicts still raging in the areas through which he passed. The reader warms to the friendships which he made, both with his fellow travellers and the people he met along the way. Be prepared to shake your head with admiration while thinking, "He's mad!" at the same time. A great read.

A great intro to Mathematical Modeling

Of the classes I had in college, mathematical modeling was the smallest class I had, but many times over the most valuable. Basically, the lesson is Use What You Know! After learning many other classes, this was the class that answered "What do we need this for?" Calculus, programming, linear algebra -- these are all good to know. Better is to know how to apply them. Even if you don't know the math, knowing that a particular type of problem can be solved with a particular type of math can often be 90% of solving the problem. Math modeling turns your knowledge into a toolbox. Once you get there, you don't even need to really understand some of the tools available in your toolbox -- if you need a particular math tool, you can look at the reference manual for it when you need to.

For X and the City, the author applies many aspects of math modeling to urban living. He looks at Traffic congestion, for example, and asks for the percentage of (waking) time people spend driving. Average commute time in Chicago was 34 minute. He gives the formula for the carrying capacity of a road network. Then he models the effect of adding one more car to a roadway at capacity.

One benefit of a book about modeling -- everything starts in the real world. Every single chapter and section, the first few paragraphs will be completely understandable by everybody, presenting an urban problem (visibility in smog). The next few paragraphs, he explains equations (x^2 = 4a+c) that can solve the problem.

There are hundreds of great little math-related stories in this book, many that I did not know. Also, I didn't know some of this math. All in all, this book added quite a bit to my math modeling toolbox, all in an entertaining, well-written style.

Highly recommended for everybody.

Excellent food for mathematically inquisitive minds

John A. Adam is an experienced mathematician with a recognized track record of technical papers and reviews, but also very much committed to teaching his field to students and educated laypersons alike. This book is one in a small but very worthwhile series of popular works by Adam. In 25 chapters it comprises not less than about 75 studies, projects, and morsels, all bound together by their potential appearance or relevance in life in a city, something, which obviously will not decrease in the world of the future.

For this reviewer the dust cover could be a bit more elaborate or artistic, but other than this, and as usual for Princeton University Press hardcovers, the format, haptic quality, choice of paper, and layout are all excellent. The book's graphs and graphics refrain of color, but are always inviting and enlightening. The typography of the very many equations is outstanding. It is calculations and equations, which set the tone and pace for most of this tome.

Here, Adam excels with lucid explanations and proofs throughout, which sometimes does not im- or explicitly spare his reader a few additional steps by paper and pen. So, this is obviously not your coffee table math book to be perused in a few days. When grading the subjects into three stages from easy to difficult, the material falls into these brackets with percentages of about 30:40:30. Whereas the easy and intermediate problems are accessible to anyone with a good command of arithmetics, geometry, trigonometry, basic probability, and real functions, the advanced topics would cater to a typical science major with a good footing in calculus and the beginnings of differential equations.

It should be noted that some 20% of the problems and projects involve "guesstimation" with occasional glimpses on dimensional analysis. This is the art of approximately solving so called Fermi problems by educated guesses, and has been the subject and title of a pocket book, coauthored by Adam.

The individual topics selected by the author are neither arranged by difficulty, nor can they always be grouped together by a certain field of science or math. The many traffic and transportation studies in Chapters 7 to 14 are a notable exception, and actually worth buying the book alone, although some related models, drawn from the literature, leave the reader a bit clueless on which is the prevailing one. For other subjects like those on outdoor optics in Chapters 20 to 23, a field in which the author is well-known by his technical contributions, the "City" theme comes across a bit forced.

The ensuing mix of sorts will not be everybody's favorite, as might be the case for some of the reserved "English" jokes, which this reviewer certainly took delight in. All these minor quibbles would only take half a star away from this one-of-a-kind book, so it got rounded-off to five.

The book closes with about 45 pages of sometimes explanatory, sometimes expansive appendices, and 8 pages of annotated notes and references.

So, anyone looking for something both enlightening and challenging in the mathematics of everyday life should get a copy. John's other books, as well as all those authored by Paul J. Nahin, also with Princeton University Press, would be recommended too.

Bought this for my daughter for Christmas. He was one of her favorite professors, & she enjoys anything he writes. He is good at making math easy to understand for laymen as well, and not only demonstrates why math is important but why it is FUN.
