The Health For Life series of books is, in my opinion, the absolute best set of reference for well researched strength and performance training along with supplementation of healthy foods. The company was founded by experts in athletic training, bodybuilders, power lifters, martial artists, athletes, and other experts in the field. Extensive bio-metric testing was incorporated into all their study. There is no need for endorsement by popular genetic freaks or billion dollar companies, its all hard science. Sadly, the former is probably why you haven't heard of these guys unless you browse some old issues of muscle & fitness or ironman and come across their incredible Legendary Abs or Power Forearms! program advertisement. Look into picking up a copy of all their books and you wont regret it. The library that I own comprises: The Human Fuel Handbook, TNT Total Neck and Traps, Power Forearms!, Explosive Power (Plyometrics), The HFL Training Advisor, MaxO2 Aerobic Training, Legendary Abs Gold (several reissues and updates exist), Maximum Calves, Transfigure I and II, Mind Games, SynerShape, SynerAbs, SynerStretch, The Body Ball Book, 7 Minute Rotator Cuff Solution, Weightless Workout, and my favorite Secrets of Advanced Body Builders. They also had great videos on punching speed, jeet kune do, and gym kai ryu martial arts but I sadly lost these in a move.

This fundamental four-volume work was translated from the considerably revised second edition. It should be of great value to engineers engaged in the design, manufacture and maintenance of machine tool equipment. It can also be used to advantage by the students of engineering institutes majoring in Process Engineering, Metal-Cutting Machine Tools or Cutting Tool Design.

The first volume deals with the basic machine tools and special machine tools used in cutting tool production. The classification, type and size range, and designation of machine tools, employed in Soviet practice, are given in detail, together with the types of motion found in machine tools. Metal-cutting lathes, turret lathes, vertical boring machines, automatic and semiautomatic lathes, milling machines and many other types of machine tools are described. Special attention has been given to machine tools designed for the production of cutting tools. These include general and single-purpose semiautomatic precision thread-grinding machines, automatic and semiautomatic tracer-controlled lathes with hydraulic controls, jig boring machines and specialized machine tools, as well as automatic transfer machines for cutting tool production.

Volume two contains Parts Three and Four. Part Three deals with the kinematics of machine tools. This branch of machine tool design has been strictly systematized by the author and is set forth with exceptional clarity. The kinematic structures of a great many different types of machine tools, including the most complex gear-cutting machines, are analyzed by methods developed in the text which take into consideration the interrelation between the workpiece to be produced in the given machine tool. Part Four takes up hydraulic drives of machine tools. It contains all the theoretical and practical data required in the application of fluid power and control systems to machine tools.

Volume Three contains Part Five and this deals with machine tool design proper. It is a comprehensive scientific treatment of the subject and is a revised and complemented version of a previous Russian edition which has become a reliable reference book for all Soviet machine tool engineers and has been translated into French. Such questions as performance criteria, basic design data, principal specifications and the development of the kinematic scheme of a new machine tool are dealt with in great detail. Design recommendations are given as well as the necessary calculation data for the basic elements of machine tools - speed and feed gearboxes, stepless drives, rapid traverse mechanisms, spindles and spindle bearings, mechanisms for rectilinear motion, small displacement and periodic motion, reversing devices, beds columns, tables and other housing-type components, slideways and antifriction ways.

The fourth and final volume covers Automatic Machine Tools and Transfer Machines, and Machine Tool Testing and Research, Parts Six and Seven of the complete work. Part Six deals with the fundamental principles of machine tool automation, the various systems of numerical programme control that have found extensive application in modern machine tool design in the USSR and other countries. Much space has been given to automatic transfer machines, including in-line, rotary, and other types, their layout, features, design procedures, structure, and output.

Current methods of testing and investigating the geometrical, kinematic, dynamic, and operational characteristics of machine tools are considered in Part Seven. Methods of testing the quality characteristics, of determining the corresponding criteria (indices), and of using contemporary apparatus for this purpose are dealt with. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

About the Author

Dr. Ramin S. Esfandiari is a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at California State University, Long Beach. He received his BS in mechanical engineering, as well as his MA and PhD in applied mathematics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has authored several books and refereed research papers in high-quality engineering and scientific journals, including Modeling and Analysis of Dynamic Systems (CRC Press, 2010) with Dr. Bei Lu. Dr. Esfandiari has received several teaching and research awards, including two Meritorious Performance and Professional Promise Awards, the TRW Excellence in Teaching and Scholarship Award, and the Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award.

I bought this book and found it very good book, but the book doesn't have answer for any exercise. Dear Authors, most of the buyers, for any course book are from students. when there are no answers, the book will be very difficult to use from the student and as a results less buyers.

Not a complete understanding of Chinese medicine and stones.

The authors take a limited number of stones and ascribe various properties to them. They utilize mainly the organ clock. these are shiastu/japanese trained guys.

If you are interested in healing stones and chinese medicine, Dr. Jeffrey Yuen's student is coming out with a book soon. this one is a must read

I am proof this works!

I owe a debt of gratitude to Steve Ozanich. His first book, "The Great Pain Deception" was crucial in my healing from years of chronic pain. I was later to receive a fibromyalgia diagnosis (which I have since adamantly rejected!). I saw a myriad of specialists and therapists through the years. But it wasn't until I discovered Dr. Sarno and subsequently Steve Ozanich that I finally began healing.
In this book, Steve focuses on back pain. But even if the source of your pain is elsewhere, this book can be extraordinarily helpful to you as the brain/pain mechanisms are all the same.
There are a few things I especially love about this book. First, he pays tribute to Dr. John E. Sarno - this is the man who open the doors of freedom for thousands upon thousands of sufferers who have been imprisoned by pain. With the successes Steve has had as a mindbody coach, he could be prone to say "look at what I've done!" Instead, he chooses humility and points to Dr. Sarno. That's credibility in my book.
The second thing I love about this book is he is not selling anything. No Three Step Program to Heal. No Inner Circle Membership. No Anointed Healing Cloth. I don't mean to sound jaded but as I get older I get cautious of those claiming to want to help me. It usually means - hang on to you wallet.
Not with Steve. He wants to help you. He wants to see you empowered. He knows YOU are able to heal yourself. Will it take some work? Yes. And that begins with KNOWLEDGE. Which can begin when you purchase this book.
You owe it to yourself - get this book! Life is too precious and short to be in chronic pain.
PS At one time I thought my exercise routine would consist of flexing one finger - provided that one finger wasn't hurting. Today, I exercise everyday including Zumba and no longer live off ibuprofen.
Note to Steve - if you decide to do the healing cloth thing, I'll expect a commission. ;)

I had back pain half my life--- I am almost 36 and have had excruciating back pain since I was a teenager (drop foot- herniations and the list of mind body issues can go on and on- but they are now in the past)- Having studied Kinesiology in college and having worked in the mind body industry since I was 18 years old- Nothing has taught me to overcome my pain like Steven Ray Ozanich's books have. True healing= Knowledge therapy baby... My new calling in life is to help others get over their pain- to heal. Be open and believe me--- your pain is not caused by structure but by your mind and emotions.

This book changed my life in regards to how I feel about constant pain and not just from my back. I have had a chronic back problem my entire life but now I live completely pain free. I would recommend this book to anyone that has back pain and then discover what it can do for other aliments. This has worked successfully for many people including myself. Though the book can't claim exclusive credit to the fact, I've been completely pain free ever since.

Julius Wiedemann studied graphic design and marketing, and was an art editor for digital and design magazines in Tokyo. His many TASCHEN titles include Illustration Now!, Logo Design, Jazz Covers and Information Graphics.

Huge beautiful book tracing the design history of one of the world's favorite magazines.

Fantastic book, and it's huge! I just received my copy late last week, so I haven't read through this cover-to-cover yet, but I'm very pleased so far. This book is much larger than I had expected at about 10" x 15", making it almost double the size of the magazine. I think this would make a great gift for anyone who is interested in information design, graphic design, or enthusiastic about National Geographic. As a design nerd, it's interesting to see the evolution of design style over time, and see a variety of ways to convey information visually.

Being so large and a hardcover, the book is rather hefty. I'd be interested in picking up a second copy in softcover, if it were a bit smaller. I think it would make for a very handy reference book for anyone who works in design.

This is a book to pass to the next generation with pride and joy!

Though expensive this book is a rare explosion of brilliantly conceived information in a book that you will want to read and look at over and over again. It is a piece of art and reference for learning and knowing. I hope it is the beginning of a way to communicate important facts and understandings for publications yet to come.

Amazing book�� It's wonderfull to read and look all the infographics; every page is music for the eyes. You need hours in every page to appreciate all the information and the visual images. Superb and magnificent.
